On Wednesday, April 18, 2007, a New Jersey jury ordered Ford Motor Company to pay over $8 million to a woman who was injured in a crash after the defective gas pedal on her 1997 Ford Explorer stuck. At trial, evidence was offerred to prove to the jury that Ford had received tens of thousands of complaints about the defective gas pedals on its 1997 and 1998 Ford Explorers and Mercury Moutaineers. Despite these complaints, Ford refused to warn of the defective throttles that were causing the gas pedals to stick prior to the New Jersey plaintiff's accident.
